Crystal Palace (2026) - 1 Oz - Silver Collector's Coin

The Central Bank of Malta is issuing a 5-euro commemorative coin dedicated to the Great Exhibition at Crystal Palace in 1851. This exhibition, officially titled “The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations,” took place in London from May 1 to October 15, 1851, and is considered the first world’s fair of its kind. The venue was the magnificent Crystal Palace, a glass-and-iron structure that symbolized technological progress and innovation in the 19th century. The initiative to organize the exhibition and build the Crystal Palace came largely from Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s husband.

More than 100,000 exhibits were presented there by approximately 13,000 exhibiting companies and institutions from 25 different countries. The aim of the exhibition was to showcase advances and innovations in industry, technology, and the applied arts on the global stage and to promote international exchange. More than six million people visited the exhibition, which was an extraordinary success for its time. This event significantly contributed to accelerating industrial, scientific, and cultural exchange in the 19th century and shaped Victorian society’s self-confidence as a leading industrial power.

The silver coin is made of Ag 999 silver and is struck in Proof quality. It weighs 31.13 grams (fine weight: 31.1 grams) and has a diameter of 38.61 mm. The mintage is limited to just 700 pieces.
