See the prehistoric world through the eyes of a top predator

Go back to the time when dinosaurs ruled the Earth and see the world through their eyes! With each new fossil discovery, paleontologists can piece together new information about what the world looked like millions of years ago, and this oval coin offers a glimpse of this long-gone reality. Its oval shape is ideal for an extreme close-up of the eye (and scaly eyelid) of Thanatotheristes, Canada's oldest Tyrannosaurus and the apex predator of its time. For another view of this species, take a closer look at the colourful reflection in the eye - you'll notice that this fearsome bipedal carnivore didn't travel alone.

Special Features:

Realistic dinosaur eye. This 99.99% pure silver coin, shaped like the eye of a Tyrannosaurus, will transport you back in time to when dinosaurs ruled the Earth!

Scientifically accurate. Designed by a well-known Canadian paleoartist. The coin's reverse design has also been checked by the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology, which was involved in the identification of this species of Tyrannosaurus.

For dinosaur lovers of all ages. Dinosaurs have always been a favourite of collectors and Canadians of all ages and are an important part of Canada's natural heritage.

Limited Collector's Edition. Only 8,500 coins available worldwide.

Includes a certificate with serial number.

"Eye" for details

The reverse side of the coin features a number of finely engraved details that faithfully capture the Thanatotherist's scaly skin and eye area, while the central portion is coloured to provide a breathtaking view of the prehistoric world reflected in the dinosaur's eye.

The reverse of this oval coin, designed by Canadian paleoartist Julius Csotony, is a close-up of the eye of a Tyrannosaurus, specifically Thanatotheristes degrootum - the oldest species of Tyrannosaurus discovered in Canada and also the most recently named (2020). While the skin and eyelids are covered with fine (engraved) scales, the dinosaur's surroundings are colourfully reflected in the eye itself, revealing the presence of other individuals of this species that roamed the swampy forests of the Cretaceous period of western Canada. The obverse features a likeness of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
